बता दें कि भारतीय पुरुष बैडमिंटन टीम ने रविवार को इतिहास रच दिया। टीम ने ७३ साल में पहली बार थॉमस कप जीता, वो भी उस इंडोनेशिया को हराकर, जिसने १४ बार इस खिताब को हासिल किया है। भारत ने इंडोनेशियाई टीम को ३-० से मात दी। भारत इस टूर्नामेंट में पहली बार फाइनल खेल रहा था। पांच मुकाबलों की इस खिताबी जंग में भारत ने लगातार तीन जीत हासिल की। इनमें दो सिंगल्स और एक डबल्स शामिल है। इस जीत के बाद केंद्रीय खेल मंत्रालय ने भारतीय टीम के लिए एक करोड़ की इनामी राशि की घोषणा की। यह पहला मौका है जब खेल मंत्रालय ने ओलिंपिक, एशियन और कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स के अलावा कोई बैडमिंटन टूर्नामेंट जीतने पर इनाम घोषित किया है।
जीत के बाद प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी ने भारतीय टीम के खिलाड़ियों से बात की और उन्हें इस ऐतिहासिक जीत पर बधाई दी है। एचएस प्रणय ने एक सोशल मीडिया पोस्ट कर यह जानकारी दी।
अनुभवी किंदाबी श्रीकांत ने भारत के माथे पर जीत का तिलक लगाया। वर्ल्ड नंबर-११ श्रीकांत जब कोर्ट पर उतरे तो उनके कंधों पर एक और सिंगल्स जीतने की जिम्मेदारी थी। उस वक्त भारत २-० की बढ़त पर था। दाएं हाथ के इस शटलर ने अपने से ज्यादा रैंकिंग वाले जोनाथन क्रिस्टी को सीधे गेम में २१-१५, २३-२१ से हराया। यह मुकाबला ४८ मिनट चला। इससे पहले फाइनल के दूसरे मुकाबले में सिंगल्स जीतने बाद डबल्स मैच जीता। चिराग शेट्टी और सात्विक साईराज रंकीरेड्डी की भारतीय जोड़ी ने पहला गेम गंवाया फिर दूसरा और तीसरा गेम जीतकर मुकाबला अपने नाम किया।
